Number of Evictions:

About HomeLine

Becoming homeless is more complicated than being late with your rent one too many times. So many families are only one medical bill or car accident or some other catastrophe away from living on the streets. Gentrification and other community processes drive up costs to make once manageable housing expenses unaffordable.

Many organizations have allocated resources towards preventing homelessness. Bill assistance and financial counseling programs have provided families with a much needed stopgap as they sort through their financial challenges. But many people don't know that these resources are available or how to access them.

HomeLine is a project to identify communities with high eviction rates to help inform decisions on where to direct homelessness prevention and rehousing efforts. It's also our goal to identify early indicators of precarious housing situations so that families can get help sooner and so upstream policy-level solutions can be developed and implemented more confidently.
